White paper Balance sheet

The balance sheet, together with the profit and loss statement and the cash flow statement, comprise the core of Financial Management.

The balance sheet is a special overview because it is a snapshot in time and consists of two parts. The left section, which we call the assets, consists of a list of everything the company owns and its value. The second part we call the equity and liabilities and is given on the right hand side. This section contains an overview with all who have a claim on the company.

Or maybe a bit too far simplified but that fits our motto and is still true:
The balance sheet is an overview which shows: “What do I have?” and “To whom does it belong?”.

Now the hard part…
What is the goal financials strive for regarding the balance sheet?
